SMART MATERIALS Properties of smart materials can be controlled by applying external stimuli, such as electric and magnetic fields, temperature, stress, etc. These materials are extensively used to fabricate sensors and actuators. For example, viscosity of a magnetorheological fluid can be controlled by applying external magnetic field. This smart fluid is used to develop magnetorheological fluid based dampers and actuators.
SENSOR MODELING & FABRICATION Sensors are microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) which are used to sense different parameters, such as position, displacement, velocity, acceleration, temperature, pressure, humidity, pH level, etc. from outside world. Mathematical modeling is required to develop a sensor. Furthermore, micro-scale fabrication technology is necessary to manufacture them.
