Dr. Md Mehedi Hasan

Dr. Md Mehedi Hasan currently working as a Lecturer in the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Earlier, he was an Associate Professor and Research Director of SURC at Stamford University Bangladesh. He worked as a Lead Machine Learning Engineer (R&D – Asia Pacific) at RME Australia to provide AI-derived industry 4.0 automation systems for Mill Relining Machines by designing and developing deep learning-based machine vision systems. The solution includes Robotics and IoT for visual servoing, liner pick-up, positioning & placement, and embedded system-on-module (SoM) computing for fully automated MRM.

Dr. Mehedi received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNSW Australia in early 2017 and worked in the area of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. Thenceforth, he worked as a Postdoc in UNSW Canberra on a consulting project for the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). Later on, he joined the Phenomics and Bioinformatics Research Centre of the University of South Australia, Adelaide as a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct applied research on Plant Phenotyping where real-world data are acquired through aerial and land-based imaging platforms with various geospatial sensors, and its statistical analysis by developing AI and Deep Learning based solutions. Prior to that, he completed MEng in Computer Engineering from Kyung Hee University, South Korea, and BSc (Hons.) in CSE from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He is a member of IEEE and a reviewer of several distinguished journals including Briefings in Bioinformatics, Plant Methods, Frontiers in Plant Science, Functional Plant Biology, IEEE Access, etc. In his career, Dr. Mehedi has received Research Fellowship (UNSW Australia), Global IT Fellowship (NIPA S. Korea), President Scholarship (KHU S.Korea), PRSS (UNSW) & SDC (KHU) Travel Grants, and other prestigious academic scholarships. His area of research interest includes Plant Phenomics, Robotics Visual Servoing, IoT, 3D Image Processing and Video Coding, Computer Vision, and Machine Learning.

Deep Learning Real-time 3D object detection and recognition, pose estimation, and tracking for intelligent surveillance
Computer Vision and Machine Learning Computer Vision and Machine Learning based applied researches on UAV, smart farming, livestock monitoring etc.
Plant Phenotyping Evaluation of plant traits such as yield, growth, development, architecture, tolerance, resistance, physiology, ecology and the principal measurement of individual quantitative parameters that form the basis for complex trait assessment.
Robotic Visual Servoing and Locomotion Vision-based robot control for picking up tools and placement, and in developing capabilities for robots to decide how, when, and where to move in autonomous conditions.
